ABPM
An ambulatory blood pressure monitor (ABPM) is a portable device you wear for approximately 24 hours to measure your blood pressures throughout your regular day and night.
What to Expect
- You will be asked to arrive wearing a loose-fitting, short-sleeved shirt.
- A cuff will be placed on your arm and attached to a monitor that can be worn around your neck or waist.
- The cuff will remain in place and the monitor will remain with you for the duration of the study (usually just under 24-hours).
- The cuff will inflate to measure your blood pressure every 20 minutes during the day and every 30 minutes at night (11:00pm-8:00am).
- A case will be provided for you to place the monitor in for return upon completion of study at the specified time the following day.
- There is a drop box for monitor returns located outside, next to the front doors of our office for your convenience.
Preparation Instructions
- Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your exam time with your health care card.
- Please we a loose-fitting, short-sleeved shirt to your appointment.
- If you have any symptoms of virus, cold or flu please inform our staff prior to your appointment.
- There are no fasting requirements for this appointment.
- You may be asked to remove jewelry from your neck and arms.
- You will not be able to shower or get the monitor wet while you are wearing it.
- You will have to return the monitor promptly upon completion of study at the specified day and time.
