Electrocardiogram
An electrocardiogram (sometimes called an ECG or EKG) measures your heart rate and rhythm and can tell us other important things about your cardiac health.
What to Expect
- You will be asked to remove everything from the waist up (females will be provided a medical gown).
- An ECG is typically performed while lying down.
- Special stickers called electrodes will be applied to your legs, arms, abdomen, and chest.
- Occasionally, if the electrodes are not adhering well, we may need to shave a small area of your skin.
- You will be asked to remain very still and may be asked to hold your breath for 5-10 seconds.
- This is typically a very quick appointment on its own, usually lasting 5-10 minutes.
- Once we have completed your ECG, we will remove the electrodes and you will be asked to get dressed and to stop by the front desk to check out as you leave.
