Echocardiogram
An echocardiogram (echo) is an ultrasound of your heart that can assess your heart function and structure to help diagnose certain cardiac issues.
What to Expect
- Your echo will be performed in our office by one of our cardiac sonographers. The sonographer will measure your height, weight, and blood pressure.
- You will be asked to remove everything from the waist up (females will be provided a medical gown).
- The lights may be dimmed during the study to optimize visualization.
- Several small stickers called electrodes will be applied to your skin which allow us to measure your heart rate and rhythm and a small amount of ultrasound gel will be applied to your skin which helps us see nice clear images.
- An echo usually takes anywhere from 20-40 minutes.
- After the scan is complete you will be asked to get dressed and to stop by the front desk to check out as you leave.
